Charles Hausmann is Professor Choral Studies at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music where he has taught since 1985. Having served as Director of Choral Studies and Director of Graduate Choral Studies he has mentored scores of graduate students and conducted all of the school’s major choral ensembles. His private and class teaching include applied choral conducting, special topics in choral literature, and vocal and choral techniques. In addition he teaches courses in the new graduate sacred music program. His special research interests have been in the areas of conducting pedagogy, and choral/orchestral performance. He is the author of numerous articles and papers and co-author of an anthology of choral music for schools.

In 2014 Dr. Hausmann was named Director Emeritus of the Houston Symphony Chorus, a position he held for 28 years.  During his tenure he prepared and conducted the Chorus for more than 900 concerts and recordings collaborating with over 50 of the world's great orchestral conductors including, Robert Shaw, Roger Wagner, Christoph Eschenbach, Hans Graf, Hugh Wolff, Sir Neville Marriner, Helmuth Rilling, Matthew Halls, Peter Schreier, John Rutter, and Leonard Slatkin.  His extensive repertoire includes most of the major works in the choral/orchestral canon.  

He has conducted many concert tours throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Choirs under his direction have performed for conventions of the Texas Music Educator's Association, the Music Educator's National Conference, and the American Choral Director's Association.  He served as chorus master for the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria in Mexico City for 25 years and is currently a regular guest conductor in China for the Shanghai International Choral League.  He has given masterclasses, workshops, and guest conducted choruses and orchestras throughout the United States, and in Mexico, China, Korea, England, Austria, Italy, Hungary, and the Czech Republic

Throughout his career Dr. Hausmann has been active as a church musician having served churches in New Jersey, Colorado, Missouri, Kentucky and Texas.  Currently he is Director of Traditional Music at Houston’s Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.  Prior faculty positions have included: Westminster Choir College, Scarritt College, and Western Kentucky University.

Dr. Hausmann holds the D.M.A. in Choral Conducting and Literature from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas City, an M.M. in Choral Conducting from The College of New Jersey, and a B.M.E. with a concentration in organ from Westminster Choir College in Princeton.
